A Brief History
In the 1984, God burdened the heart of Jenny Doss to reach women dealing
with crisis pregnancies by starting a center in Shelby County. The crisis pregnancy
center was opened in Alabaster in a suite of the Jessup Building on Highway 31 and
was dedicated to serve the Lord Jesus Christ and the women and families of Shelby
County on November 10, 1985.
Sav-A-Life Shelby, Inc. at that time, was affiliated with Sav-A-Life, Inc. by mane,
but has always been financially separate and governed by its own board of directors.
The ministry is supported financially by individual contributions, local churches
and two annual fundraising events. In October 2003, Sav-A-Life Shelby began receiving
income through the sale of “Choose Life” license plates from the state of Alabama.
When the
doors were first opened in November of 1985, the office was staffed completely
by volunteers and open 3 days a week. In 1990 Sav-A-Life Shelby moved to 217 First
Street North in Alabaster. While there the hours of operation increased to five
and one-half days a week. In June of 2000 the office moved to a new location in
Pelham, 262 Yeager Parkway. In November of 2000 Sav-A-Life Shelby opened a satellite
office in the Highway 280 area.
In 2002, Sav-A-Life Shelby, Inc. began the process of becoming a medical facility
offering ultrasounds to positive test clients. Doctor Nathan M. Ross agreed to be
the Medical Director and was later joined by Doctor Jon Adcock.
In February 2006 we received a grant from Focus on the Family and Option Ultrasound.
Again in October of 2007 we receive a second grant to place a machine in the new
280 location.
Today, Sav-A-Life Shelby, Inc. continues to operate two pregnancy centers, the corporate
office is located at 3156 Pelham Parkway, Suite 1 and the Satellite is located at
110 Scotch Drive, Suite 206
